Početak novog tisućljeća donio je val optimizma na plesne podije, a malo je pjesama koje su taj osjećaj uhvatile tako precizno kao “It Feels So Good” i “Sky”. Sonique je 2000. godine postala globalna dance zvijezda, a njezin debitantski album “Hear My Cry” obilježio je jednu cijelu generaciju.

“It Feels So Good” originalno je objavljena 1998. godine, no pravi život dobiva dvije godine kasnije, kada ponovno izlazi i odmah ulazi na prvo mjesto britanske ljestvice singlova, gdje ostaje tri tjedna. Pjesma završava godinu kao treći najprodavaniji singl u Velikoj Britaniji, s više od 800 tisuća prodanih primjeraka, dok paralelno osvaja i američko tržište, dosegnuvši osmo mjesto Billboard Hot 100 ljestvice.

Glazbeno, riječ je o savršenom spoju čistog dance popa, klupske energije i zarazne melodije, dok iza teksta stoji jednostavna, ali iskrena emocija. Sonique je kasnije otkrila da je pjesma nastala iz neuzvraćene ljubavi, kao osobna poruka da osjećaji nisu bili vezani uz nečiji uspjeh, već uz osobu samu. Drugu stranu albuma, emotivno dublju i osobniju, donosi “Sky”. Pjesma je napisana u sjećanje na Soniqueina sina, kojeg je izgubila u osmom mjesecu trudnoće. To je bio događaj koji je sama opisala kao najteži trenutak svog života. Unatoč bolnoj pozadini, “Sky” je postala jedna od najljepših i najprepoznatljivijih dance balada tog razdoblja.

Objavljena u lipnju 2000. godine, “Sky” dolazi do drugog mjesta britanske ljestvice, dok u Hrvatskoj i Rumunjskoj osvaja sam vrh. Njezin refren, istovremeno melankoličan i uzdižući, savršeno se uklopio u duh vremena u kojem je nastala.

Danas, više od dva desetljeća kasnije, obje pjesme i dalje žive punim plućima – kako u originalnim verzijama, tako i kroz moderne obrade.
